Courses for Beginner Food Gardeners

Follow our lead as we plan and plant an urban edible garden.  Even if you’ve never had dirt under your nails we’ll make the process manageable and fun!  Our workshops are timed to progress with the growing season allowing you to follow along at home.

Follow the progress of the Zoo’s crops along with your own, and join us later in the season for sessions on tending an urban edible garden, as well as harvesting all that fabulous produce you have grown!  Don’t forget to visit us during the growing season for demos by our Master Gardeners.


  

Picking your Produce

It’s not always obvious when your food crops are ready to be harvested, but Kathy Smyth will take the mystery out of the process for you!  Learn how and when to harvest, as well as simple storage strategies.  You’ll spend time in the classroom, and then take it outside to learn in the Zoo’s Garden of Eatin’

Pickles and Preserves

After enjoying some of your harvest fresh out of the garden, the next best thing is to enjoy the same crops deep into the winter season!  Kath Smyth, local garden celebrity and experienced food gardener will instruct you on the various techniques used with a variety of crops – drying, canning, freezing and more.  Enjoy the fruits of your labour!

Registrations are accepted in the order in which fees are received. Please note that prices and dates are subject to change.
