The Calgary Zoological Society, which operates the Calgary Zoo, Botanical Garden and Prehistoric Park , is dedicated to recreation, education, conservation, and wildlife research. RBC Zoomobile is a new initiative of the Calgary Zoo to take educational programming and live animals to schools, seniors centers, and other community events and locations. The Education Department is seeking a dynamic and creative individual with excellent organizational and communication skills.
Under the guidance of the Community Education Manager, the successful candidate will be responsible for delivery and coordination of RBC Zoomobile including creating and delivering programming, handling live animals, supervising basic administrative functions, scheduling staff, maintaining a budget and other associated duties.
Candidates will bring the following qualifications and experience to the position:
- Experience in interpretation, environmental education, or related field;
- Keen interest and knowledge in natural history and conservation;
- Excellent organizational skills;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Excellent public speaking skills and the ability to develop rapport and engage children and adults in an entertaining and educational manner;
- Excellent animal handling skills;
- Ability to work under minimal supervision within defined guidelines;
- Superior customer service to all clients;
- A Bachelor's degree in Zoology, Education or related field.
Conditions of Employment :
- Full time, limited term position
- Clean Drivers Abstract, Class 4 License
- First Aid and CPR
- Criminal Police check
- Most work will be week days but must be able to accommodate a flexible schedule including days, weekends, stat holidays and eveningsPosition to begin June 2, 2008 (or earlier, if possible)
Physical Demands: This office job involves full mobility, lifting of medium loads and standing for long periods of time.
