Horticultural Projects

 

Plants are important to our zoo for many different reasons. From aiding in research to aiding in relaxation and from teaching visitors about the importance of ecology to feeding our animals, plants play a vital role of the Calgary Zoo. Please look over the following projects where we would appreciate your support. Donations of any amount are greatly appreciated.

The Seeds of Enrichment Our long winters are challenging for Zoo animals. Many animals are enriched by trays of fresh grass and herbs, grown by volunteers in the greenhouse. This enrichment is highly recommended by our veterinarians. Ranging from $1,500 to offset the cost of seeds, soil and trays to $4,000 to offset the operational costs of the greenhouse. Donate
Browse for Zoo Animals Have you ever wondered where the browse (food stuff) for zoo animals comes from? Horticulturists gather this material at a weekly cost of $300 and we plant many specimens to keep up with this demand. Please consider sponsoring the weekly operational costs to provide fresh browse.
