The
future of many of the world's species lies in hands of today's
young biologists. While the Centre for Conservation Research awards
annual Canadian Conservation Research Fellowships, the majority
of the world's biodiversity exists outside of Canada, primarily
in developing countries where conservation research training opportunities
are often lacking. Therefore, it is crucial that conservation
biologists from other countries also receive training that provides
them with the skills necessary to pursue their dreams and effectively
employ scientific methods in their country's species recovery
programs.
The
Centre for Conservation Research partners with international colleagues
and travels to developing countries to teach endangered species
recovery and management skills to people who are in positions
of influence (such as park, university or government staff). The
Centre also provides ongoing support for course graduates over
time and offers scholarships to international biologists. These
individuals travel to Canada to learn the skills needed to improve
endangered species conservation in their home countries, bettering
the chance of survival for species around the globe.
